Graphcore is further strengthening its R&D capabilities and commitment to supporting customers with the opening of a new engineering centre in Gdańsk, Poland.

The office will eventually be home to Graphcore’s largest software development team outside of the UK, and will play a vital role in maintaining our position as a leading innovator in AI compute systems.

We are looking for a broad range of people to work with us in Poland, covering the full spectrum of software engineering, including the development of our Poplar software stack, enabling major deployments such as AI cloud datacentres, and providing direct support to Graphcore customers as they expand their systems and optimise workloads.

As the team grows, Graphcore will also be hiring engineers to support opportunities presented by the convergence of AI and HPC.

While based on the Baltic coast, members of our Gdańsk team will be helping to drive the growth of our business globally. Recent additions to our growing roster of customers include NHN and Korea Telecom.

Team building

Graphcore’s software systems are co-designed with our hardware, and teams across all divisions work together extremely closely – from silicon to datacentre infrastructure. While our Intelligence Processing Unit is a remarkable, ground-breaking piece of technology, it is Graphcore software that makes its power accessible to our customers.

The choice of Gdańsk for this important part of our business was an easy one. Poland has built an enviable reputation for developing excellent homegrown software engineers. It has also proved to be an attractive destination for talent relocating from elsewhere in the world.

Intel, Amazon and a multitude of other technology companies have already set up major operations in the city.

We are grateful for the welcome that we have received from those local organisations that work closely with technology companies choosing to locate and expand in Poland. Piotr Mieczkowski, Managing Director of Digital Poland Foundation said: “We are delighted that Graphcore – a leading innovator in the AI sector – has chosen Gdańsk for its new software engineering centre.

“As our State of Polish AI 2021 report shows, Poland is in the lead of the European countries when it comes to the availability of specialists in the industry. Graphcore will undoubtedly benefit from that. The interest of foreign capital confirms the country’s position and contribution to the development of AI technology.”

Graphcore’s office will be based at Alchemia, Northern Poland’s second largest business centre, conveniently located close to the city’s vibrant downtown area, the University of Gdańsk, and a short drive from Lech Wałęsa Airport.

In addition to state-of-the-art office facilities, Alchemia offers extensive sports and recreation facilities, bars, restaurants and coffee shops.

Of course, our new employees will become part of the global Graphcore family, which now stretches from Palo Alto to Beijing, Bristol to Tokyo. We’re grateful to have such a diverse range of experience and expertise, coming together to drive our products forward and help make Graphcore the leading name in AI compute.
